Dino Day at Eureka!

Who is Eureka!?

Eureka! is the National Children’s Museum, located in Halifax, West Yorkshire. It is a vibrant, hands-on space designed to inspire curiosity and imagination through play and discovery. The museum offers a wide range of interactive galleries, workshops, and exhibits tailored for children of all ages, from toddlers to teenagers.

Visitors can explore creative zones for art and construction, experiment with science and technology, and engage with themed storytelling areas that bring learning to life. Its combination of education and entertainment ensures children can learn while having fun, encouraging both family bonding and independent exploration. With dedicated staff and a welcoming atmosphere, the museum continues to be a favourite destination for families across the region and beyond.

Stage One: The Brief

Halifax BID partnered with Eureka! to fund and support Dino Day, part of the museum’s “Dino summer take over” programme. To ensure inclusivity, our brief was to ensure some activities were held outside the museum grounds so that everyone could join in free of charge.

At the same time, additional entertainment was available inside the museum, giving ticket holders an even broader range of dino-themed experiences. This balance allowed the event to reach the wider community while still offering extra value to visitors.

Stage Two: The Museum

Eureka! also hosts regular events, seasonal activities, and special exhibitions, making every visit unique. Inside the museum, families could explore a variety of attractions. The Spark Gallery featured a dinosaur exhibition with interactive screens and games, while the theatre hosted lively themed activities.

Children also loved the Dinosaur Dig, where they sifted through sand in search of fossils and bones, turning the gallery into an adventure zone filled with discovery. The event had 400+ visitors pre-booked for the Dino Day event which was a higher advance booking numbers than seen on other days during the six weeks school holidays.

Stage Three: A totally DINO-mite day

Our dino handlers delivered an unforgettable dino day with stage shows, meet-and-greet sessions, and roving photo opportunities. Guests came face-to-face with life-like dinosaurs, asked curious questions, and captured selfies that made the experience truly memorable.

The energy and enthusiasm of the team kept visitors engaged from start to finish allowing Family’s to play, explore and enjoy prehistoric fun in Halifax.

Stage Four: The Dinosaurs

The highlight for many was the arrival of the dinosaurs themselves. An adult animatronic T-Rex towered over the crowd, while smaller baby dinosaurs delighted younger children. From tiny hatchlings breaking free from their shells to a playful diplodocus, spinosaurus, pachycephalosaurus, and triceratops, the collection created a magical encounter for all ages, adults and children alike!

“Dino Day at Eureka was a roar-some success — thanks to everyone who joined us! From baby dinos to the big dino show, it was a day full of prehistoric fun.
